Mitch DeCanter Writes:
WITH FAITH, HOPE, AND THE LOVE OF GOD! I AM PUBLICLY
DECLARING, IT IS TIME TO MAKE DISCIPLES!
It seems very strange to me that tonight I am speaking on Faith, Hope and Love (Charity) However, this what God said to do, thus, I better not not have FAITH to do that.
Now first, everybody take your bible and turn to Matt. 28: 16 – 20. Mark that because we will be closing with that passage.
Let us read that now, and I ask you to keep thinking about that passage, dwell on it, but listen to the following points.
“THEN THE ELEVEN DISCIPLES WENT AWAY INTO GALILEE, TO THE MOUNTAINS WHICH JESUS HAD APPOINTED FOR THEM. 17. WHEN THEY SAW HIM, THEY WORSHIPED HIM; BUT SOME DOUBTED. 18. AND JESUS CAME AND SPOKE TO THEM, SAYING “ALL AUTHORITY HAS BEEN GIVEN TO ME IN HEAVEN AND ON EARTH. 19. “GO THEREFORE AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL THE NATIONS, BAPTIZING THEM IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER AND OF LTHE SON AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, 20. TEACHING THEM TO OBSERVE ALL THINGS THAT I HAVE COMMANDED YOU; AND LO, I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, EVEN TO THE END OF THE AGE.” AMEN
Faith, Hope and Love (Charity)
Truthfully – even though I understand the word “LOVE” -
CHARITY – Makes it easier to understand the Love of Jesus Christ,
Did I say Jesus Christ! It was the love of God!
John 3: 16 – 17 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17. “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
Paul writes in 1 Cor. 13:13 ” And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
1 Thessalonians 1: 3 – 4 remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father, knowing beloved brethren, your election by God.
The Holy Bible introduces us to concepts which
theologians sometimes call “metaphysical”
concepts. These are concepts generally of “
being and knowing” which are not based on “hard
physical science.” They include Biblical concepts Like
those of SPIRIT, SOUL, HEAVEN, HELL, ANGELS,
DEMONS, SATAN, THE ALMIGHTY GOD, AND ETC.
In short, the so-call “metaphysical” concepts include all
the Bible refers to as “things which are not seen.”
2nd Corinthians 4:18 “While we look not at the things
which are seen , but at things which are not seen: for the
things which are seen are temporal; but things which are
not seen are eternal.”
It is things “eternal” and “not seen,” things which cannot
be discerned with the five senses of the fleshly body that
I am speaking concerning FAITH, HOPE, AND LOVE!
Biblical, “Spiritual Things”
Paul in Ro. 15:27 – “It pleased them indeed, and they are
debtors. For if the Gentiles have been partakers of
their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister to them
in material things.
“Spiritual things” are of such importance in the Bible
that they are discussed with a special vocabulary
of spiritual words.
Spiritual words of the Bible are adaptations of
material words, having been given new meanings
when used in spiritual settings.
Words like “life, death, garden, house, armor, body etc
are often used metaphorically to describe
spiritual concepts.
These three, Faith, hope and love, spiritual words.
Faith, hope and love to us Christians (Believers)
convey non-material concepts, being related to the
spiritual “inter person,”
FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE, A TRIUNITY OF GIFTS
FOR SUSTENANCE OF THE CHRISTIAN LIFE
Christians are given different gifts, some 1 gift,
some another, and perhaps, some no special gifts at
all.
Whatever gifts are given, they are given by the
Holy Spirit who distributes to each Christian just
as He wills. 1Cor. 12: 4 – 30.
Paul, says in 1 Cor 13:13 “But now abide FAITH, HOPE, LOVE, THESE THREE; but the greatest of these is love.
“FAITH” IS THE BASIS FOR THE REVEALING OF GOD’S
RIGHTEOUSNESS IN A CHRISTIAN LIFE
BY FAITH WE UNDERSTAND
Heb. 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for,
the evidence of things not seen.”
“HOPE” IS A SPIRITUAL GIFT PROVIDING PRESENT ENJOYMENT OF THE FUTURE FULFILLMENT OF THE PROMISES OF GOD.
In Acts 24:15 ” I have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection, of the dead, both of the just and the unjust. 16. This being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men.
From Col. 1:27 “…He has reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and without reproach – if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard…”
Christ in you, the hope of glory”
“Christ Jesus, who is our hope;” 1 Tim 1:1
“… the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, preached long ages ago,…Titus 1:2
“Hope” is a spiritual word dealing with things “not seen” or things not detected by the five fleshly senses.
Hope is a firm substantive “output” in a Christian’s fleshly life, but it is a spiritual promise of God.
As a spiritual output, HOPE is realized by the spiritual parts of a Christian, being enjoyed especially in the “intellect,” the “volition,” and the emotion of the soul which will live forever with Jesus or Lord,
“HOPE” IS EXEMPLIFIED IN THE LIVES OF GOD’S PEOPLE.
“LOVE” IS A GIFT FLOWING CONTINUOUSLY FORM GOD THROUGH HIS HOLY SPIRIT
1 john 4:7 – 11: “Dear friends, let us love one another, for (because) love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is LOVE. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
“LOVE” IS TO FLOW THROUGH THE CHRISTIAN OUTWARD TO PERFORM GOD’S WORK IN PEOPLE AROUND HIM
John 13:35 “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love one for another.” RIGHTEOUSNESS!
FAITH HOPE AND LOVE THESE THREE!
NOW THE FINAL POINT THE MESSAGE
Turn back to Matthew 28: 16 – 20
(Hold Bible) Be Warm and let the love of God flow out.
